Thanks to a new report, Essex tourism contributed £2.9b to the economy in 2012 along with of course the London 2012 Olympic Bike events at Hadleigh Farm & Country Park.
The study, known as the Economic Impact of Tourism Report, showed that Essex tourism was up by £65 million compared to 2011… not bad hey! Holidays and tourism related jobs also received a massive boost, with over a thousand new jobs.
The chairman of Visit Essex, George Kieffer said “These figures show that tourism contributes a substantial amount to the local economy and it is heartening to see such positive figures for the Olympic year.” He went on to say “Essex is a fantastic destination for day visits or short breaks and with Christmas nearly upon us I would really recommend people wrap up warm, get out and discover new parts of Essex not previously visited.”
Over the last decade, Essex tourism has seen quite a downturn. Predominantly seaside resorts have become run down and, shall we say, had their names blackened by some of the local goings on! But hopefully this marks a new journey for our little towns!
Kevin Bentley, Cabin Member for Economic Growth said “We are thrilled that so many members attended the conference yesterday to benefit from leading industry experts. Visit Essex aims to promote tourism, increase visitor numbers and the length of visits as well as generate income for the county. The conference was an ideal opportunity to share these fantastic figures which clearly show we are well on target to see 10% growth over a 3 year period from 2012 to 2015 as outlined in our Business Plan.”
Sunrise looks forward to seeing just a fraction of the £2.9 billion this year… in our dreams! We’re not about profiteering here, if you’ve seen our used static caravans and the prices in comparison to other dealers we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
